Online Hardness Water Quality Monitoring Project for Secondary Water Supply Systems
This project focuses on real-time monitoring of water hardness in secondary water supply systems to ensure that the supplied water complies with relevant sanitary standards. Hardness primarily refers to the content of calcium and magnesium ions in water. Excessive hardness may affect the taste of water and, when heated, readily forms scale, which can impair the service life of pipes and equipment.
Project Objectives
Real-time monitoring of water hardness in secondary water supply systems to ensure it remains within a safe range.
Provide timely alerts to prevent pipeline blockage or equipment damage caused by hardness exceeding permissible limits.
Support the scientific management of secondary water supply systems and safeguard the safety of residential water use.
Monitoring Parameters
Hardness: Typically expressed as calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) equivalent, in units of mg/L or mmol/L.
Other relevant parameters may include pH, electrical conductivity, etc. These auxiliary parameters help assess water quality conditions and assist in analyzing the causes of hardness variations.
System Components
Online Hardness Sensor: Installed directly in the pipelines of the secondary water supply system for real‑time measurement of water hardness.
Data Acquisition and Transmission Unit: Collects data from the sensor and transmits it to a central control system via wired or wireless means.
Central Control System: Receives, stores, and analyzes data from each monitoring point; provides a user interface to display water quality status and supports remote access and control.
Alarm System: Automatically triggers an alarm when the measured hardness value exceeds the preset safety range, alerting management personnel to take appropriate action.
Implementation Steps
Needs Assessment and Planning: Determine the key locations and monitoring frequency based on the specific conditions of the secondary water supply system.
Equipment Selection and Procurement: Select suitable online hardness monitoring equipment and carry out necessary procurement preparations.
Installation and Commissioning: Install the online monitoring equipment according to the design plan and complete commissioning to ensure proper operation.
Operation and Maintenance Management: Establish a regular maintenance plan to ensure long‑term stable operation of the monitoring equipment; simultaneously develop an emergency response plan to quickly address abnormal situations.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Periodically analyze monitoring data and generate reports to provide a basis for management and decision‑making.
This project helps improve the management level of secondary water supply systems and prevents adverse effects caused by water hardness issues, thereby better protecting public health and water supply safety.
