Monitoring and early warning of groundwater resources and environment -3

Groundwater Quality Monitoring and Early Warning System Project in Shandong Province

This project aims to strengthen the monitoring and management of the groundwater environment through modern information technology and scientific management methods, ensuring the safe and sustainable utilization of groundwater resources.

Project Background

As a province with relatively scarce water resources, Shandong has long relied on groundwater as an important source of water supply. However, with economic development and population growth, groundwater is facing severe challenges such as declining water levels and water quality pollution. Therefore, establishing an effective groundwater quality monitoring and early warning system is particularly important.

Main Objectives

Real‑time Monitoring: Obtain multiple parameters, including water level and water quality, through dynamic monitoring of groundwater.

Data Analysis: Utilize big data analytics to process collected data and identify potential risks.

Early Warning Release: Issue timely warnings and take corresponding measures once water quality anomalies or potential threats to water resource safety are detected.

Decision Support: Provide a scientific basis for government and relevant management authorities to support the formulation of sound water resource management and protection policies.

System Composition

Sensor Network: Sensors deployed at groundwater monitoring sites across the province collect real‑time data.

Data Transmission: 4G networks or other wireless communication technologies are used to upload data to a central server.

Data Center: Responsible for storing, processing, and analyzing data from each monitoring site.

Early Warning Platform: Triggers an alarm mechanism based on data analysis results when anomalies are detected, and notifies relevant personnel.

User Interface: A visualization interface provided for government agencies and the public to display groundwater status and early warning information.

Technologies Applied

Internet of Things (IoT): Used to connect and manage a large number of sensor devices.

Cloud Computing: Supports efficient processing and storage of large‑scale data.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Used to build predictive models, improving the accuracy and response speed of the early warning system.

Implementation Significance

This project enhances the supervisory capacity of Shandong Province over its groundwater environment, helps prevent and control groundwater pollution incidents, ensures the safety of drinking water for residents, and promotes sustainable economic and social development.
