Online Water Quality Monitoring Project for the Water Source in Shanwei, Guangdong Province
This project is an intelligent ecological monitoring initiative designed to strictly fulfill the responsibility of protecting water sources, ensure the safety of drinking water for regional residents, and implement the requirements of the Shanwei City Water Environment Protection Regulations. The project focuses on key water sources such as Gongping Reservoir and Longtan Reservoir, as well as the water source protection areas of the Luohe River and Huangjiang River basins in Shanwei. Taking into account the distribution characteristics of local water sources, hydrological conditions, and ecological protection needs, a comprehensive online monitoring network has been established covering the water intakes, first‑level protection zones, second‑level protection zones, and surrounding catchment areas of the water sources. This fills the gap in real‑time monitoring of water sources in Shanwei and provides solid technical support for ecological protection of water sources and water quality safety control.
At the core of the project is the Hitewell outdoor micro water monitoring station. Leveraging its key advantages of compact size, flexibility, and ease of operation and maintenance, the equipment is scientifically deployed at key monitoring points of the water sources. The monitoring focuses on core control indicators for water sources, including pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, electrical conductivity, and heavy metals, fully complying with the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water and relevant regulations on pollution prevention and control in drinking water source protection areas. The system enables 24/7 continuous, real‑time, and accurate monitoring, capable of rapidly capturing abnormal fluctuations in water quality and promptly identifying potential contamination risks to the water sources. The outdoor micro water monitoring station features an integrated outdoor protective design with an ingress protection rating of IP65 or higher, making it adaptable to the complex outdoor environment of Shanwei, which is characterized by high temperatures, high humidity, and frequent rainfall. It offers corrosion resistance, anti‑interference capability, and lightning protection. The station is easy to install, has a small footprint, and perfectly suits the deployment needs of remote outdoor water source locations. It enables real‑time transmission, storage, query, and trend analysis of monitoring data, with a built‑in multi‑level exceedance alarm function. Once a water quality parameter exceeds the standard threshold, the system immediately pushes early‑warning information to relevant departmental managers, facilitating rapid risk investigation, source tracing analysis, and emergency response to prevent water source pollution incidents.
Through the implementation of this project, Shanwei has achieved a transformation in water source quality management from "periodic sampling" to "real‑time monitoring" and from "passive response" to "active early warning." This effectively protects the ecological environment of the water sources, ensures the safety of drinking water for regional residents, supports the construction of a full‑chain water source protection system in Shanwei City, and promotes the coordinated development of ecological environmental protection and livelihood security.
