Heilongjiang Agricultural Farm Sewage Treatment Plant

I. Project Overview
This project is designed to establish an integrated water quality online monitoring system at key points of the supporting wastewater treatment station for large-scale farms. The system provides real-time and continuous monitoring of core pollution indicators in wastewater, while simultaneously controlling basic physicochemical parameters such as pH and turbidity. It is intended to meet threefold requirements: compliance with agricultural livestock wastewater discharge standards, environmental online supervision, and plant operation and maintenance management.

The system can automatically collect, store, and upload monitoring data, and provide real-time alerts for abnormal exceedances, enabling visualized whole-process management of farm wastewater.

II. Core Monitoring Parameters

Chemical Oxygen Demand (CODcr)
This parameter indicates the total organic matter content in water. Farm wastewater mainly originates from livestock manure, feed residues, and flushing waste liquids. High CODcr concentrations consume dissolved oxygen in water, potentially leading to fish and shrimp mortality and causing water blackening and odorization. Real-time monitoring helps evaluate the degradation efficiency of anaerobic and aerobic biochemical treatments, and controls the organic pollution load in effluent.

Ammonia Nitrogen (NH₃-N)
As a signature pollutant in farm livestock wastewater, excessive discharge into rivers can trigger algal blooms and water eutrophication, and is toxic to aquatic organisms. Monitoring this parameter guides the operation of nitrification and denitrification processes, controls the reaction environment for nitrifying bacteria, and reduces ammonia nitrogen content in effluent.

Total Nitrogen (TN)
This is a core indicator of water eutrophication, encompassing all nitrogenous pollutants including ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and organic nitrogen. Monitoring TN assesses the performance of denitrification processes and helps control total nitrogen discharge limits to comply with livestock and poultry farming wastewater discharge standards.

Total Phosphorus (TP)
Phosphorus from livestock manure and feed is a primary trigger for cyanobacterial blooms in water bodies. Excessive TP can easily lead to eutrophic algal blooms. Real-time monitoring assists in precise dosing of phosphorus removal agents, ensuring stable compliance of total phosphorus in effluent.

pH Value
pH is a critical environmental parameter for the survival of biochemical microorganisms, with an optimal range of 6–9 for biochemical treatment. pH levels that are too high or too low can directly inhibit bacterial activity, leading to wastewater treatment failure. Additionally, the pH of discharged water must comply with surface water and farmland irrigation standards.

Turbidity
This parameter reflects the content of suspended solids, fecal residues, and sludge particles in water, providing a direct indication of flocculation and settling efficiency in sedimentation tanks. High turbidity suggests sludge loss and incomplete solid-liquid separation, and also serves as an auxiliary indicator for fluctuations in TP and COD parameters.

III. Core Functions

Uninterrupted automatic monitoring – No manual attendance required, reducing labor costs associated with manual sampling and laboratory testing;

Exceedance alert and traceability – Rapid identification of abnormal indicators enables timely operation and maintenance intervention;

Environmental compliance documentation – Data is uploaded to regulatory platforms in real time, with automatic retention of original monitoring records to address environmental inspections;

Reduced operation and maintenance costs – Automatic monitoring minimizes the frequency of manual testing, while precise chemical dosing reduces reagent waste;

Proactive risk control – Early warning of wastewater exceedance issues prevents water pollution incidents caused by illegal discharge, leakage, or non-compliant effluent discharge.
